Turkish, Moroccan foreign ministers speak amid Israel's Jerusalem violence

Officials discussed convening session of Organization of Islamic Cooperation committee, say diplomatic sources

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s foreign minister spoke to his Moroccan counterpart over the phone on Monday amid Israel’s ongoing aggression against Palestinians in Jerusalem.

Mevlut Cavusoglu and Nasser Bourita discussed convening a session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Al Quds Committee, according to diplomatic sources.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent, at least 305 people were injured when Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday.

The attack came as occupied East Jerusalem braces for a planned annual Jewish nationalist march through the city later in the day.

Israeli forces have been relentless in their attacks on Palestinians since Friday, when they injured more than 300 Palestinians at Al-Aqsa, which is the third-holiest site in the world for Muslims, and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Tensions have run high in the Sheikh Jarrah area since last week as Israeli settlers have swarmed in after an Israeli court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families.

Palestinians protesting in solidarity with the residents of Sheikh Jarrah have been targeted by Israeli forces.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed the entire city in 1980 – a move that has never been recognized by the international community.
