Turkish MPs set up July 15 coup bid stand in Geneva

GENEVA (AA) – A group of Turkish deputies Tuesday set up a stand in Geneva regarding the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.

Seven deputies, including five from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party and two from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) set up the stand on the sidelines of a meeting of lawmakers from around the world.

AK Party deputy and head of the Turkish delegation, Coskun Cakir told Anadolu Agency that they had the chance to share with the participants the details of the foiled coup with the help of books published in different languages.

"Our stand has drawn a lot of attention and we are really happy about it," Cakir said, adding thousands of people from 171 countries were participating in the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in the Swiss city Sunday through Thursday.

At least 241 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured in the failed coup, which the government said was organized by followers of Fetullah Gulen, the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) leader who lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, in the U.S.

Gulen is accused of leading a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish government through the infiltration of state institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the parallel state.
