HATAY, Turkey (AA) - Turkey’s IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation on Tuesday announced the delivery of food aid to refugees on the Syrian border.
The NGO said canned meat and fish was sent to camps in the Yayladagi district close to the border between Hatay province and Syria.
Aid was also distributed across the border in the region around Turkmen mountain in Latakia governorate.
IHH’s Yayladagi representative Mustafa Culha said the foundation continued to support displaced people in other regions close to the Hatay border, such as in the village of Hiripticoz in Idlib governorate.
“Cold weather conditions affect people negatively,” Culha said. “For this reason, we have accelerated our humanitarian aid efforts.”
He said 8,500 tins of meat and fish had been distributed around Turkmen mountain and Hiripticoz, as well as 35,000 loaves of bread.
Many Syrian Turkmen have taken shelter in Turkey since the start of the conflict in March 2011, among more than 10 million people displaced by the violence.
