HATAY, Turkey (AA) - Turkey’s Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) announced Wednesday that it had dispatched food aid for some 300,000 families in Syria during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

“During Ramadan, we sent 300,000 families aid packages,” Selim Tosun, a spokesman for the foundation’s branch in Turkey’s southern Hatay province, told Anadolu Agency.

“The aid has been distributed to needy families in Idlib, Hama, rural Aleppo and inside the displacement camps on the Turkish border,” he said.

According to Tosun, aid is loaded onto trucks at the IHH’s logistics center in Hatay’s Reyhanli district before being taken into Syria via the Cilvegozu border crossing.

Tosun said that the aid -- which includes food, sugar, flour and baby supplies -- had been brought into Syria aboard 173 trucks.

One of Turkey’s leading aid agencies, the IHH sends humanitarian aid to struggling people across the world, including war-torn-Syria, drought-hit Somalia and conflict-prone areas of Myanmar.
