Turkish opposition MHP candidate elected Erzincan mayor
Bekir Aksun receives 29,838 votes in local election, outpacing competition by over 5,000 ballots
ANKARA (AA) - The opposition Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) candidate was elected mayor of the eastern province of Erzincan in Turkey's local elections on Sunday.
Bekir Aksun bagged 29,838 votes, while ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate Cemalettin Bassoy got 23,596 votes, according to unofficial results.
Millions of Turkish voters headed to the ballot boxes on Sunday for the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
