Turkish opposition party criticizes recent government appointments
'The issue isn't the office holders or individuals, it's in the system itself,' says co-chair of Peoples' Democratic Party

ANKARA (AA) - The co-chair of an opposition party in Turkiye on Tuesday criticized the recent appointment of new senior bureaucrats, including the justice minister.
"The government is changing personnel. It's painting an image as if the order can be fixed by changing personnel. The issue isn't the office holders or individuals, it's in the system itself," Mithat Sancar told the parliamentary group of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).
"It is in the executive presidential system itself," said Sancar, referring to Turkiye's current system of government that it adopted in 2017 through a public referendum, and put it into practice a year later.
Sancar was criticizing the government for recently changing the country's justice minister, as well as the head of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
"The source of the problem is obvious. The source of the problem is the mentality of this power, the regime that feeds this power, and the (presidential) system that allows all these policies to be implemented," added Sancar.
