Turkish opposition party leader criticizes energy price hikes

‘The only thing government will give Turkiye is more poverty, suffering,’ says Good Party head Meral Aksener

ANKARA (AA) - The leader of an opposition party in Turkiye on Wednesday criticized the government for energy price hikes in the country.

Addressing the parliamentary group of her Good (IYI) Party, Meral Aksener said: "These record hikes done without conscience are a testament to the incompetence of the government."

The government last week announced revised power rates for 2022, increasing prices for households by 50% and 125% for businesses. Prices of natural gas have also been raised by 25% for homes and 50% for industrial use.

"The only thing this government will give Turkey, from now on, is more poverty and more suffering. It is that simple," Aksener added.
