ANKARA (AA) - The speaker of the Turkish parliament on Friday congratulated Guinea-Bissau on the 48th anniversary of the country's independence.
In a letter to Cipriano Cassama, his counterpart in the West African country, Mustafa Sentop said: "Turkey attaches importance to the development of its relations with Guinea-Bissau in every field. Inter-parliamentary visits and contacts, which we can intensify with our joint efforts, will undoubtedly contribute positively to these relations."
"As I celebrate your National Day once again, I wish you and your esteemed members of the National People's Assembly of Guinea-Bissau good health and success," he added.
Guinea-Bissau celebrates its national day on Sept. 24, which marks the unilateral declaration of independence from Portugal in 1973.
