ANKARA (AA) – The PYD/PKK terrorist group has martyred five Turkish civilians in 82 cross-border rocket attacks since the beginning of the Turkish-led counter-terrorist operation in northwestern Syria, said Turkey’s prime minister on Friday.

Over 12 days, 82 rockets have been fired into the Turkish border provinces of Reyhanli, Hatay, and Kilis, Binali Yildirim told a ground-breaking ceremony in the capital Ankara.

“Due to these rockets, five of our citizens have lost their lives and we have had over 100 of our citizens injured. This does not include the demolished buildings and mosques,” he said.

“We destroyed their tunnels, their positions” in the Syrian operation against the terrorists, Yildirim said.

“We will destroy them all.”

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkey’s borders and the region as well as to protect Syrians from terrorist oppression and cruelty.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.

The military also said only terror targets are being destroyed and that the "utmost care" is being taken to avoid harming civilians.
