Turkish referendum receives attention from Eurasia

Media outlets across Eurasia reports on Sunday's referendum in Turkey

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's “Yes” vote on the presidential system has been widely reported in Eurasian countries.

Russian news agency TASS ran the headline: "Supporters of presidential system win referendum in Turkey" and gave detailed coverage of Turkey's referendum.

The Kommersant newspaper said: "Turkish people supports constitutional change", referring to the data of Anadolu Agency.

Izvestia newspaper named President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's victory as: "Historical revolution of Erdogan".

On Sunday, millions of Turks voted on wide-ranging reforms in the constitution that would usher in an executive presidency. Unofficial results showed the Yes camp on 51.41 percent while the No had 48.59 percent.

Azerbaijani press mainly highlighted phone call between Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who was the first leader to congratulate Erdogan.

The country's newspaper "Yeni Musavat" said: "Turkey makes historic choice".

The referendum was also covered by Ukrainian media. Kyivpost newspaper said Erdogan gained power after referendum.

Kyrgyz media followed the referendum via Anadolu Agency, which published the results in 11 languages for broadcast, electronic and print.

Akipress news agency covered the remarks of Sadi Guven, the chairman of the Supreme Election Board (YSK). It also covered Erdogan's speech after referendum.

Kazakhistan's news agency Kazinform highlighted the turnout, which was 85.46 percent.

Georgian State Television TV1 said "Historical referendum in Turkey" and added majority of Turkish people supported constitutional change.

Uzbek news portal "kun.uz" said: "Referendum in Turkey: Results and expected changes". It also extensively covered Erdogan's speech.
