Turkish stock exchange down at close

Benchmark BIST 100 index drops some 96.5 points at Friday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed the week on Friday at 9,097.15 points, down 1.66% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, which started the day at 9,218.30 points, lost 96.54 points from Thursday's close.

The lowest value of the index for the day was 9,090.79, while its daily high was 9,226.98.

Some 37 indices increased in value, while 61 declined at the end of the day.

The total transaction volume reached 109 billion Turkish liras ($3.47 billion), while the overall value of the index was 7.76 trillion liras ($249.3 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 31.3580 as of 6.15 p.m. (1515GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 33.9610, while the GBP/TRY traded at 39.6080.

The price of one ounce of gold was $2,062.85, while the barrel price of Brent oil was around $83.
