Benchmark BIST 100 index falls 189.5 points at Monday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Monday at 8,907.65 points, down 2.08% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, which started the day at 9,139.11 points, lost 189.50 points from Friday's close.

The lowest value of the index for the day was 8,907.65, while its daily high was 9,149.90.

Some 29 indices increased in value, while 68 declined at the end of the day.

The total transaction volume reached 107 billion Turkish liras ($3.41 billion), while the overall value of the index was 7.6 trillion liras ($243.3 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 31.5330 as of 6.55 p.m. (1555GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 33.2920, while the GBP/TRY traded at 40.0440.

The price of one ounce of gold was $2,115.15, while the barrel price of Brent oil was around $83.25.
