Turkish stocks down 2.2% at midweek close

On shortened trading day due to national holiday, BIST 100 loses nearly 25.64 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day early as scheduled at 1,126.99 points on Wednesday, down 2.22% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the shortened transaction day at 1,150.10 points. As of the close, it lost 25.64 points from Tuesday's close of 1,152.63 points.

The market closed midday on Wednesday and will be closed all day Thursday in observance of Turkey’s Oct. 29 National Republic Day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40.35 per barrel as of 1 p.m. (1000GMT) on Wednesday.
