Turkish stocks flat at midweek opening

BIST 100 index rises marginally by 0.44 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,455.18 points on Wednesday, up 0.03% or 0.44 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 1.35% at 1,454.74, posting a daily trading volume of 12.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 8.3800 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) versus 8.3470 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 9.9200 compared to 9.8840, while one British pound traded for 11.5200 Turkish liras, versus 11.5350 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for $72.10 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).

Analysts said investors will follow the speech of Turkish Central Bank Governor Sahap Kavcioglu at a meeting of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry to be held on Wednesday.
