Turkish stocks flat at Thursday opening

BIST 100 index drops 0.09% from midweek close, USD/TRY exchange rate at around to 5.68

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Thursday down 0.09% or 89.50 points to open at 99,716.67 points.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 1.81% to close the day at 99,806.17 points with a daily trading volume of 7.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.26 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.6850 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, down from 5.6910 at midweek close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.4005, versus 6.3870, and one British pound traded for 7.0720 Turkish liras, compared to 7.0820 the previous day.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $63.80 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Thursday.
