Turkish stocks see steep fall at opening

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index BIST 100 started the week with a 3.66 percent drop to open at 100,324.38 points on Monday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 3,813.10 points, while the BIST banking and holding indices went down by 4.34 and 3.31 percent, respectively.

The BIST transportation index started Monday with the highest decline, down 10.47 percent, while all sector indices performed a fall.

Last week, the BIST 100 rose 1.2 percent on a weekly basis and closed at 104,137.48 points on Friday.

One U.S. dollar traded at 3.6850 Turkish liras at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday, a climb from 3.6270 at Friday's close.
