Turkish stocks start Friday 0.21% down

BIST 100 index falls 186.83 points from Thursday's close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.88

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started the last business day of the week down 0.21% or 186.83 points to open at 89,824.79 points on Friday.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index jumped 3.24% to close at 90,011.62 points with a daily trading volume of 6.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.11 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.8850 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, down from 5.9170 at Thursday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.5690, versus 6.5920, and one British pound traded for 7.4360 Turkish liras, compared to the last close at 7.4710.

One barrel of Brent oil was sold for $64.37 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Friday.
