Turkish stocks up 0.27 pct at daily open

BIST 100 index rises nearly 278 points from Wednesday's close, USD/TRY stands around 5.28

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.27 percent or 277.73 points to open at 101,923.55 points on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 2.04 percent to close the day at 101,645.82 points with a daily trading volume of 8 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.2830 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Thursday, compared to 5.2560 at the last close.

The euro/lira exchange rate was 5.9730, versus 5.9360 at the previous close. One British pound was exchanged for 6.8140 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY rate was 6.7860 by market close on Wednesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $64.33 per barrel as of 9.50 a.m. local time (0650GMT) Thursday.
