Turkish stocks up 1.10% at Thursday opening

BIST 100 index gains 20.8 points in opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,916.28 points on Thursday, up 20.82 points, or 1.10%, from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index rose 2.43% on Wednesday for a midweek closing of 1,895.46 points, with a daily trading volume of more than 24.1 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate jumped to 13.3050 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), from 12.6310 at the previous close.

The euro/lira exchange rate climbed to 15.0460 from 14.3270, while a British pound traded for 17.9590 liras, up from 17.0120.

Brent crude oil was sold for around $79.2 per barrel as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
