Turkish stocks up at midweek open

BIST 100 index gains 5.59 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,415.44 points on Wednesday, increasing 0.40% or 5.59 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 0.81% to close at 1,409.85 points, with a daily trading volume of 13.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).

One US dollar traded for 8.6400 Turkish liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), down from 8.6670.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.3000, versus 10.3280 a day before, while one British pound traded for 12.0500 Turkish liras, slightly increasing from 12.0400.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $75.41 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
