Turkish stocks up at midweek open

BIST 100 index rises 0.25% from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands at around 5.63

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Wednesday up 0.25% or 251.81 points to open at 100,452.79 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 0.47% to close at 99,817.80 points.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.6340 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, up from 5.6510 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.3580, versus 6.3880, and one British pound traded for 7.0830 Turkish liras, compared to the last close at 7.1550.

Brent oil was sold for $62.93 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
