Turkish stocks up over 1 pct at close

BIST 100 index climbs some 959 points from last week's close, US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate falls below 5.25

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday up 1.03 percent to close at 93,962.35 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 959.08 points from last week's close, as it started the first trading day of the week at 93,521.69 points.

By market close, the USD/TRY exchange rate fell to 5.2390, down from Friday's close of 5.2800.

The EUR/TRY rate was 5.9550, while one euro traded for 5.9960 liras at the previous close.

The British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.7430, while it was 6.7850 at close on Friday.

At daily close, the price of one ounce of gold was $1,226.30 in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,223.65 at the previous close.

Hovering between $59.17 and $61.03 during the day, the price of Brent oil was around $60.84 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) Monday.
