Turkish table tennis head praises Hu's Euro triumph

ANKARA (AA) – The head of Turkey’s Table Tennis Federation praised Turkish national athlete Melek Hu Monday for scoring a gold in the 2016 European Championships.

Oktay Cimen told Anadolu Agency that Hu scored an “incredible victory” by winning a gold medal in Sunday’s championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Hu’s 4-1 victory over Portugual’s Yu Fu brought Turkey its first-ever gold in the women's singles category.

Cimen said they have been awaiting this success for years, adding, "We were crowned European champions in women's singles for the first time”.

Seven Turkish athletes – three women and four men – competed in this year's European Championships.
