ANKARA (AA) - Türkiye’s competition watchdog has fined Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms 346.72 million liras ($18.63 million) for violating competition law.
By combining data collected through its main services Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the company obstructed competitors in online video advertising and created barriers to entry to the market, the Turkish Competition Authority said in a statement on Wednesday.
The penalty was imposed in line with Meta Platform’s 2021 annual income, it added.
A Meta Platforms spokesperson said the company disagrees with the findings.
“We protect our users’ privacy and provide people with transparency and control over their data. We will consider all our options,” the spokesperson said in a brief statement.
The company can appeal the decision within 60 days.
