Turkiye's foreign trade gap at $26.4B in Q1

Country's exports rise to $60.2B in 1st quarter of this year, posting 20.6% rise year-on-year

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkiye's foreign trade gap reached $26.4 billion in the first quarter of 2022, up 138.5% on a yearly basis, the country's statistical authority said on Friday.

Turkiye's exports and imports went up by 20.6% and 42% to $60.2 billion, and $86.6 billion, respectively, over the same period, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

In March alone, the country's exports totaled $22.7 billion, up by 19.8% on a yearly basis, while imports increased by 30.7% to $30.88 billion.

The trade gap was $8.17 billion in March, increasing by 75.1% on an annual basis.

"Foreign trade deficit, excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, was $136 million in March 2022," TurkStat said.
