Turkmen Embassy honors renowned poet Magtymguly Pyragy

'All the works of Pyragy are the poetic statement of the [Turkmen] people's national feelings', says Turkmen envoy in Ankara

ANKARA (AA) - Turkmenistan’s embassy in Ankara commemorated on Thursday a famed 18th-century Turkmen poet who was not only a "symbol of Turkmen unity but also a common voice of Turkish and Islamic world."

Speaking on the annual holiday honoring the "great poet of the Turkmens" Magtymguly Pyragy, Turkish Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Serdar Cam said he continued to enlighten since the 18th century.

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Ishankuli Amanlyev stressed the role of culture and art have huge important in his country.

"All the works of Pyragy are the poetic statement of the [Turkmen] people's national feelings. His name and poems have become sacred for us all," he said in front of the statue of the renowned poet.

He noted that Turkmenistan organized events abroad to promote the country’s national and cultural values.

Turkish and Turkmen officials attended the event as well as lawmakers, academics as well as some other officials from both countries.


- Bilateral ties

Cam went on to say that bilateral relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan could be further enhanced under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

"We will contribute to the development and welfare of the whole Turkish world together when we mobilize the opportunities for cooperation between our countries," he added.
