Turks in Europe jubilant over Erdogan election success

AK Party supporters celebrate Erdogan's success in European cities such as London, Berlin, Paris, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Vienna

LONDON/PARIS/COLOGNE, Germany/BELGRADE/VIENNA (AA) - Justice and Development (AK) Party supporters in Europe celebrated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's election success late Sunday.

More than 200 Turks celebrated in the streets of London following the release of unofficial election results that showed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan success.

Supporters in London’s Hyde Park chanted slogans in support of Erdogan and his Justice and Development (AK) Party. They also danced and sang Turkish songs.

Members of the Union of International Democrats and the Newcastle-based Fikri Asim Association, two organizations representing Turks in the U.K. and Europe, also joined the celebrations.

In Germany, AK Party's supporters also celebrated Erdogan's election success. The overjoyed supporters took to the streets of capital Berlin and Kerpen near Cologne, chanting slogans and honking their cars.

President Erdogan has declared success in Turkey's presidential and parliamentary elections.

In Paris, a group of Turks celebrated Erdogan's success. They gathered at the Turkish-French Institute, waving Turkish and AK Party flags.

In Macedonia, hundreds of Erdogan and AK Party supporters gathered in Skopje to celebrate their election success.

People at the city center waved Turkish and AK Party flags as well as Erdogan posters.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people in Serbia's Muslim-majority city in the south of the country, Novi Pazar, also gathered in the city center to celebrate Erdogan's success.

Separately, citizens of Bosnia's capital Sarajevo as well as Turkish citizens with temporary residence flocked to the streets to celebrated the election success of AK Party and the presidential success of party leader Erdogan.

The celebration began in front of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), where a column of cars emerged with national flags of Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina together with AK Party flags and posters of President Erdogan. The cars later went to the city center where people waved flags.

In Switzerland, a group of people celebrated the results in the streets of Zurich and waved Turkish flags.

In Austria, Turks in capital Vienna were also jubilant over Erdogan's success in Turkish elections. They too waved flags and chanted slogans in favor of Turkey and Erdogan.

Earlier Sunday, President Erdogan declared his success in Turkey's historic presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to unofficial results, Erdogan received 52.5 percent votes with over 97 percent of ballots counted.

The AK Party-MHP People’s Alliance secured a combined vote of 53.5 percent in the parliament.
