Turks living in Europe help South African Muslims

Food packages distributed to over 1,300 families in South Africa

CAPE TOWN - An aid group founded by Turkish community in Europe distributed food packages to 1,350 families in South Africa on the eve of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Muhammad Ali Yaman, a volunteer for Hasene Association, said: "We delivered the packages to the people before the beginning of the fasting month so that they are able to break their fast [at Iftar] and also have a filling dawn meal [Suhoor]. The people were very happy to receive the aid and prayed for those who presented it."

"People living in the villages of South Africa face difficulties due to shortage of water," he added.

Murat Kubat, press officer for the association, said that Turks residing in Europe are keeping their cultural and religious values alive by participating in humanitarian activities.

He added: "During Ramadan, we distribute food packages to 56 countries, We also send aid to 100 countries for Eid-al-Adha."
