HAKKARI (AA) – Two village guards were martyred Thursday in a PKK terror attack in the Hakkari province, in Turkey's far southeast, sources said.
Security sources told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions of speaking to the media that another soldier was injured in the same attack, which took place in Hakkari’s Semdinli district.
Sources said PKK terrorists opened fire against village guards in the village of Uzumkiran.
The injured village guard was rushed to the Semdinli State Hospital.
Turkish security forces then launched an air-supported operation in the region to find the terrorists.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S., and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, around 500 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and over 4,900 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
