Uganda: 10 children killed by lightning
9 children struck while taking break from football match, 10th died on way to hospital, says report
ANKARA (AA) - At least 10 children were struck and killed by lightning during a heavy rainstorm in northwestern Uganda, the APA news agency reported Friday.
The incident took place when nine of the 10 children aged 13-15 took shelter in a hut after taking a break from a football match, when the lightning struck, killing them, according to the report.
The tenth child died from lightning while being taken to a hospital.
Both the two incidents took place in the city of Arua, according to the APA report.
In recent weeks, Uganda has witnessed heavy thunderstorms.
In 2011, Uganda witnessed a similar lightening incident where 18 children were struck and killed in the western part of the country, according to the report.
