UK home secretary resigns after 6 weeks in office

LONDON (AA) - British Home Secretary Suella Braverman resigned on Wednesday afternoon, only six weeks after her appointment.

Braverman’s resignation came amid rising criticism against Prime Minister Liz Truss because of the U-turns in main policies she had announced weeks ago and the sacking of Treasury chief Kwasi Kwarteng.

Braverman reportedly resigned over a specific incident about mistakenly sharing sensitive information over her personal phone and was asked to resign for breaching the ministerial code.

With the resignation of Braverman, Liz Truss has now lost a second of her top ministers within a week.
