LONDON (AA) – Fighter jets from the Royal Air Force have been scrambled to track “unidentified aircraft” off Scotland's coast on Wednesday, according to local media reports.
The Typhoon jets were launched from the Royal Air Force Lossiemouth in Moray and joined by a Voyager air-to-air refueling tanker from the Royal Air Force Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Sky News reported.
An Royal Air Force spokesman declined to provide more information on the operation until it is over, according to the report.
British jets were scrambled in November last year in response to Russian TU-160 Blackjack strategic bombers as they had approached the British area of interest.
