UK: Man guilty of plot to kill prime minister

LONDON (AA) - A man on Wednesday was found guilty of plotting to kill Prime Minister Theresa May in an attack on Downing Street.

Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, from London has been on trial at the Old Baily where he gave details of his violent plan to assassinate the prime minister in a Daesh-inspired attack.

Rahman had been under surveillance by officers from the Metropolitan Police and MI5 who posed as Daesh operatives and corresponded with him.

Rahman was arrested in November 2017 after having told the undercover officers that he had been provided with a suicide vest and a bomb.

On trial alongside Rahman was 22-year-old Mohammed Aqib Imran, who has been accused of planning to travel to Libya and Syria to fight for Daesh and engage in terrorism.

The jury had found Imran guilty after being in possession of a terrorist handbook, however, they are still considering whether to charge him or not for preparing to conduct terrorism abroad.

Rahman had also admitted that he helped Imran join Daesh in Libya.
