UK: Man held after egging Jeremy Corbyn

A man was detained by police after the incident in Finsbury Park

LONDON (AA) – A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing an egg to Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn on Sunday while he was visiting a mosque in Finsbury Park, north London.

The Metropolitan Police said a 41-year-old man was "quickly detained by officers on scene" and arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident, which took place shortly after 4 pm local time.

The man was taken under custody in a north London police station, police said.

Corbyn was visiting Finsbury Park Mosque and Muslim Welfare House on the occasion of an annual “visit my mosque” day.

The incident took place near the Muslim center, which saw a terror attack that killed Makram Ali in June 2017.

Darren Osborne, 48, killed the 51-year-old victim, and injured 11 others when he plowed a van into a group of Muslim worshippers after they left Ramadan prayers at the Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park.

Osborne was found guilty of murder and attempted murder by a British court and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 43 years.
