UK, US agree on 'unified response' to Aramco attacks

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Donald Trump 'condemned the attack'

LONDON (AA) – The U.K. and the US administrations have agreed on a “unified response” to last Saturday’s attacks on the Aramco oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, a British government statement said Wednesday.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Donald Trump “condemned the attacks and discussed the need for a united diplomatic response from international partners,” in a phone conversation, it said.

Johnson and Trump also spoke about Iran and “agreed that they must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon,” according to the statement, adding that the two leaders briefly discussed Brexit as well.

Saudi Arabia said on Wednesday it has an evidence for Iran’s involvement in the recent drone attacks on its Aramco oil facilities.

"Iran-made Delta Wing drones participated in the attack on Aramco," Col. Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi Defense Ministry, said in a news conference aired by Saudi satellite TV channel Al-Arabiya.

Al-Maliki asserted that the attack "came from north to south and certainly was supported by Iran."

According to the spokesman, the attack was carried out by 25 drones and a cruise missile.

On Saturday, armed drones struck two facilities of Saudi Arabia's oil company Aramco.

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attacks.
