KYIV, Ukraine (AA) - Two people were killed Thursday in attacks that targeted the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv by Russian forces, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Russian forces attacked the area where warehouses are located in Svyatoshinsky and a fire erupted in the region.

Smoke could be seen for miles as firefighters tried to put out the fire.

No further information was given by Ukrainian authorities regarding the attack and fire.

On Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited wounded citizens in a hospital, who were injured as a result of attacks carried out by the Russian army.

Zelenskyy visited the members of a family and other citizens who were injured by fire opened by Russian soldiers during the evacuation of Vorzel, according to a statement from the Presidency of Ukraine.

Russia began its war against Ukraine on Feb. 24. It has drawn international condemnation, led to sweeping financial sanctions and export controls on Moscow and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 780 civilians have been killed and 1,252 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, according to the UN, which emphasizes that the true number is likely much higher.

Around 3.2 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, according to UN figures.
