Ukrainian martial law poses threat: Kremlin spokesman

Dmitry Peskov says Ukraine's decision to impose law can deteriorate situation in country's southeast

MOSCOW (AA) - Ukrainian martial law poses threats for the escalation of tensions in the country's southeast, Russia's presidential spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Moscow connects Ukraine's introduction of the martial law with the upcoming presidential elections, Dmitry Peskov told journalists in Moscow.

"The imposition of martial law in a number of regions could potentially threaten the escalation of tensions in the conflict area. I mean the southeast," he said.

On Sunday, three Ukrainian vessels tried to enter Russian territorial waters in the Azov Sea, which was a part of the Russian territory before the Crimea annexation.

According to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) statement, the Ukrainian vessels pointed the guns at the Russian Navy ships. To prevent the attack, Russian border guards seized the vessels in a fight, in which three Ukrainian servicemen were injured.
