Ukrainian power grid operator announces commencement of electricity exports to Slovakia

Electricity production in Ukraine sufficient to cover needs of consumers, says Ukrenergo

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine’s power grid operator said Monday that it began exporting electricity to Slovakia amid sufficient levels of electricity production for local consumption.

“From today, the export of electricity to Slovakia started (200MW every hour), exports to Poland (75MW every hour) and Moldova (99-134MW at different hours) continue. Small imports from Slovakia also continue (2-4 MW at different times),” Ukrenergo said in a statement on Telegram.

The statement said that despite the positive levels of electricity production in the country, the “difficult situation” with regard to supply along the front line with Russia continues.

“Restoration of the power system after massive Russian attacks continues. The priority at the moment is the restoration of power supply reliability. Repair crews are working on all high-voltage network facilities that were attacked by Russia,” the statement further said.

On April 7, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry announced that the country will resume electricity exports to Europe in cases of surplus.

Ukrenergo said last Monday that it began holding auctions for the export of electricity to Europe, the first of which was held on Monday to start the supply to neighboring Moldova as of Tuesday.

It also said an auction would also be held for Poland on the same day and that the possibility of opening exports to Slovakia is also being negotiated.
