Ukrainian power grid operator says electricity export to Moldova, Poland possible due to sufficient power reserve

Current key priority is restoration of power supply reliability, says Ukrenergo

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine’s power grid operator announced that it is able to export electricity to Moldova and Poland from Wednesday as there is a sufficient power reserve in the country.

“As of April 12, electricity production fully meets the needs of consumers. There is sufficient power reserve in the power system. Thanks to this, it is possible to export electricity to Moldova (30-95 megawatts at different hours), and from today - to Poland (up to 75 MW at different hours),” Ukrenergo said in a statement on Telegram.

The statement said the operator’s key priority currently is the restoration of power supply reliability, and that its repair crews are carrying out “restoration work” on all high-voltage network facilities that were subjected to Russian attacks.

It further said five main lines have been returned to work and the equipment of nine substations of various voltage classes has been partially restored since the attacks on Sunday, adding that restoration works are still ongoing.

“We ask, if possible, to transfer the use of powerful equipment to night and day hours. This will reduce the load on the power system, which has suffered heavy damage from the enemy and is still recovering,” the statement concluded.

Ukrenergo said on Monday that it began holding auctions for the export of electricity to Europe, the first of which was held on Monday to start the supply to neighboring Moldova as of Tuesday. It said an auction would also be held for Poland on the same day and that the possibility of opening exports to Slovakia is also being negotiated.

On Friday, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry announced that the country will resume electricity exports to Europe in cases of surplus.
