ANKARA (AA) - Turkey is above UN’s humanitarian aid standards, UN Secretary-General’s Humanitarian Envoy Dr. Ahmed al-Meraikhi said Friday.
Al-Meraikhi made the remarks during his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak in southern Kahramanmaras province.
According to the deputy premier's office, al-Meraikhi was also shown facilities for refugees in Kahramanmaras.
Kaynak told the envoy about Turkey’s humanitarian efforts since the beginning of the Syrian crisis.
"I am very impressed by what I have seen. The UN has certain standards in humanitarian aid. Here I have seen that Turkey is doing work much above these standards," he said.
"The UN has to reach Turkey’s standards. From now on everywhere I go, I will describe the 'Turkish model'," he added.
Turkey will host the World Humanitarian Summit between May 10 and May 12.
