Emmy-nominated Millie Bobby Brown becomes youngest-ever goodwill ambassador of UNICEF

ANKARA (AA) - A popular American science-fiction television series star Millie Bobby Brown has been named as the United Nations Children's Fund’s (UNICEF) newest and youngest goodwill ambassador on Tuesday.

Starring in Stranger Things, Netflix's sci-fi story of a group of children who cross into a parallel dimension, 14-year-old Emmy-nominated actress has become the youngest-ever goodwill ambassador of UNICEF.

The announcement came on Universal Children’s Day at U.N. headquarters in New York.

“It’s a dream come true to become a UNICEF goodwill ambassador." the young actress said. "It’s a huge honor to join such an impressive list of people who have supported UNICEF over the years.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting as many children and young people as I can, hearing their stories, and speaking out on their behalf,” she added.

The British star will use her global platform to help raise awareness of children’s rights and issues affecting youth, such as lack of education, safe places to play and learn and the impact of violence, bullying and poverty.

On Brown’s claim of UNICEF title, Henrietta Fore, the executive director of the organization, expressed her pleasure to welcome Millie to the UNICEF.

“I know that Millie will use her passion and dedication to defend the rights of vulnerable children and young people everywhere,” Fore said.

UNICEF's goodwill ambassadors include singer Katy Perry, tennis players Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic.

Universal Children’s Day -- celebrated on 20th November -- is a global day of action ‘for children, by children’ to raise awareness and funds for the millions of children that are unschooled, unprotected and uprooted.
