UPDATE - 11 Arab states register new coronavirus cases
After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, coronavirus has spread to at least 172 countries and territories

ANKARA / ISTANBUL (AA) - Health authorities in 11 Arab countries confirmed new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.

Tunisia's Health Ministry said a 56-year-old man died from the virus in Sousse, south of capital Tunis, bringing the total deaths to four.

The North African country reported 59 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number to 173.

In Lebanon, the Health Ministry reported 29 new infections, taking the total coronavirus cases to 333.

Oman's Health Ministry also said 15 new cases were reported in the Gulf country, bringing the total infections to 99.

Four new cases were also registered in Kuwait, with the total cases of the disease reaching 195.

In a press briefing, a spokesman for the Kuwaiti Health Ministry said four patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries to 43.

Palestine reported its first death from the coronavirus Wednesday.

A 60-year-old female patient with serious health problems died in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian government spokesman Ibrahim Milhem told reporters in Ramallah.

Milhem said 64 cases were detected in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with 17 recovered.

One more patient in Egypt died of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll up to 21, Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed told reporters.

Zayed said 40 new cases were detected in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 442.

Also, 93 people have recovered from COVID-19, he added.

Iraq's Health Ministry confirmed a total of 29 deaths from the virus, along with 346 infections so far.

A total of 89 people who were treated for the virus have been discharged from hospitals.

The United Arab Emirates confirmed a total of 85 cases, with the total reaching 333, its Health Ministry said in a written statement.

More than 50 people have recovered from the deadly virus, the statement added.

Algeria reported two new deaths from the novel coronavirus, bringing the number of total deaths to 21, according to country's Health Ministry.

The country announced 38 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the figure to 302.

The number of cases rose to 172 in Jordan, after the Arab country confirmed 19 people infected with the virus.

The Qatar Health Ministry also announced that the total number of cases rose to 573 as 11 more people contracted the virus.

Since emerging in Wuhan, China, last December, the virus has spread to at least 172 countries and regions, according to data compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows there have been over 458,900 cases reported worldwide since last December, with more than 20,800 deaths and 113,600 recoveries.
