SIIRT, Turkey (AA) – Three workers died late Thursday after a copper mine collapsed in Turkey's southeastern province of Siirt, the governorate said in a statement.
Rescue teams are working to reach miners trapped under the collapsed mine in the Sirvan district, according to the statement that said the collapse occurred because of a landslide.
"More search and rescue teams have been asked to join the efforts from nearby cities," the statement added.
Another statement from the government said 13 workers are trapped under the wreckage.
A worker's body among the three dead has been pulled from the wreckage, it said.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has been informed about the collapse and is receiving updates about rescue efforts.
The governorate earlier said it established a crisis management center right after incident.
