DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) - A man was killed in an explosion in southeastern Turkey’s Diyarbakir province on Tuesday, according to the regional governor’s office.

The blast struck the provincial security directorate's maintenance facility in Diyarbakir’s Baglar district at 10.47 a.m. (0747GMT) while an armored vehicle was undergoing repairs, the Diyarbakir Governor’s Office said in a statement.

A civilian staff member succumbed to his wounds at a hospital, the statement said.

An investigation was immediately launched into the incident, it added.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown.

Initial reports suggested at least four people were injured in the blast.

Earlier, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told a meeting in Istanbul that as per information from aid agencies, one person was still under the blast wreckage.

The building partially collapsed after the explosion, damaging other structures and vehicles in the area.

Ambulances and security officials were immediately dispatched to the area.

Meanwhile, police officials warned residents not to smoke and not to open gas bottles at home because of the risk of a possible gas leak.
