AZAZ, Syria (AA) - At least two people were killed and 20 others injured in car bombings near the opposition-held town of Azaz in northern Syria on Wednesday, according to the White Helmets civil defense agency.

The first explosion struck near a local hospital in the town of Al-Bab city that injured 10 people, it said.

Rescuers from the White Helmets and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) rushed to the scene of the attack to search for survivors.

Several buildings, including a primary school, were affected by the bombing.

Several hours later, a similar attack occurred in Cobanbey, a town near the Turkish border, leaving two people dead and 10 others injured.

The attacks came on a day when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced to launch new military operation on east of Euphrates river, northern Syria.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
