ISTANBUL/ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from an earthquake in Indonesia has climbed to 56, according to a statement by the Indonesian National Disaster Agency on Monday.
Over 700 people were also injured in the 5.6 magnitude earthquake, the statement quoted West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil as saying.
The strong earthquake hit the Southeast Asian country's Cianjur Regency, West Java, at around 1:21 p.m. (0621GMT.)
It was felt in the capital Jakarta and other regions, including Rancaekek, South Tangerang, and Depok, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
Earlier, officials at the Indonesian Disaster Agency said the death toll was likely to increase.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Ministry released a statement on Monday to express the country's "deep sorrow" over the quake.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives as well as to the friendly and brotherly people and the Government of Indonesia, and wish speedy recovery to the injured," the ministry said.
