UPDATE - 2 PKK terrorists killed in southeast Turkey clash

HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) - A PKK terrorist was killed during a clash with Turkish army in southeastern Hakkari province early Wednesday morning, according to a military source.

The clash took place when security personnel were carrying out a search operation in a central district of the province, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

An M-16 rifle was also seized from the slain terrorist.

In separate, security forces killed one PKK terrorist and arrested two others in eastern Van province on Wednesday, Governor's Office said.

The Office of Provincial Governor stated that the forces launched a search operation against PKK terrorists, who attacked security guards unit by improvised explosives and injured three guards in Gurpinar district on May 14.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
