HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) - A policeman succumbed to his injuries at a state hospital in the southeastern Hakkari province on Wednesday, according to provincial governor’s office.

In a statement, the Hakkari Governor’s Office said the policeman had been injured during an operation against the PKK terrorist organization in the village of Ogul in central Hakkari.

More than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign in July 2015.

Separately, two soldiers were martyred in an accident in the province of Kilis when a military vehicle and a truck collided on the road between the provincial capital, also called Kilis, and Elbeyli, to the east, said a security source.

One soldier died at the scene of the accident, and six people were wounded, and they were taken to the Kilis State Hospital for treatment, added the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Later, a soldier among the injured succumbed to his wounds in the hospital despite all efforts, it added.
