EDIRNE/VAN, Turkey (AA) - At least 220 undocumented migrants were held across Turkey on Wednesday, according to security sources.
In Basciftlik district of eastern Van province, seven Afghan nationals were detained while they were trying to enter Turkey illegally, said the sources who refused to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Police detained the migrants, including three children, the sources added.
In western Edirne province, 213 undocumented migrants were held, the sources said.
The sources added that the migrants are of Libyan, Algerian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Pakistani, Afghan, Bangladeshi, Eritrean and Syrian nationalities.
Turkey has been a main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.
