ISTANBUL (AA) – At least three university football players were killed and two other students wounded in a shooting in the Eastern US, and the suspect is now in police custody, officials said Monday.
“I am heartbroken to report that the shooting has resulted in three fatalities; two additional victims were injured and are receiving medical care,” Jim Ryan, president of the University of Virginia, said on Twitter.
Ryan said the shooting took place at 10 p.m. local time on Sunday (0300GMT Monday). “One of our students, Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., is suspected to have committed the shooting,” he added.
While Jones was still at large, the university said he was “considered armed and dangerous” and wanted in connection with a “shooting incident that occurred on the grounds of the University of Virginia.”
Later on Monday, the university police department announced that they had Jones in custody.
